Film Feature | 5 Reasons We Need A World’s Finest Film Before Justice League
The eagerly anticipated Man Of Steel is mere weeks away from release, and it’s safe to say that many of us are looking forward to seeing Zack Snyder’s take on the world’s most iconic superhero. Even though the film is not out yet, there has already been speculation on the future of the DC universe on the silver screen, specifically whether or not Man Of Steel will be the launching pad for a Justice League movie. However, there is also another avenue which Warner Bros. could pursue; a team-up of just the ‘World’s Finest’ superheroes, Superman and Batman.
At one point, it seemed like fans’ dreams of a Superman/Batman team-up were going to be realised, as Wolfgang Peterson was attached to direct a World’s Finest movie prior to Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins (2005). Since then however, the closest we’ve come is the now infamous poster tease in I Am Legend (2007). A recent interview with Man Of Steel‘s leading man Henry Cavill – in which the star expressed interest in a live action Batman/Superman story – is guaranteed to stir up discussion once more, and there are many reasons a World’s Finest movie might be a better way for WB to go post Man Of Steel.

I don’t disagree especially since all the other major DC properties seem in complete disarray (Green Lantern, Flash, Teen Titans, etc.). Green Arrow and it looks like Wonder Woman are going to be on the CW for a few years, so-assuming Man of Steel does what we all hope it will-get Superman back on his feet. I think we’ll see the “normal” Superman status quo established at the end this film. Give him another solo to flesh out his universe while you figure out how to relaunch Batman and give him one solo adventure to establish the new cast there; then bring them together for a World’s Finest. They can use that time to try to build up the secondary players and ramp up to a JLA movie from there. The complete lack of action on the Flash especially makes me mad because Marvel’s rip-off, Quicksilver (no hate, but that’s what he is), is going to be in TWO movies before Flash gets some big screen love. Good post!

Thanks! Right now the prospect of a new Batman solo film is daunting for everybody. Teaming him up with Supes (assuming MOS is successful) is the best way to reintroduce him. Also means that they don’t have to create two potentially very different universes before uniting them.
Agreed about The Flash but at least he’s getting an animated film in a couple months!
