Film Review | The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
★★★½☆
2015 has been a great year for spies at the multiplex. Not only have the movies been entertaining, they have all offered different takes on the espionage genre. Kingsman: The Secret Service brought back the cool gadgets: Spy was a hilarious comedy: and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation set the bar high for action. Enter Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: based on the spy-fi NBC TV series (which aired from 1964 to 1968), it has all the stylistic elements you’d expect from the director, benefitting more from the chemistry of its cast than its storytelling or action.

Film Trailer | The Lone Ranger
It would seem that Gore Verbinski enjoys working with Johnny Depp almost as much as Tim Burton does. Having collaborated on The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as well as Rango (2011), the pair have re-teamed once more for The Lone Ranger (2013), a re-imagining of the 1950s television series. Earlier this week, the first official poster was revealed and now we have a slightly blurred teaser trailer of the Jerry Bruckheimer produced blockbuster for your viewing pleasure. The Lone Ranger will follow the exploits of former Texas Ranger John Reid (Armie Hammer) as seen through the eyes of Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Depp) as the unlikely heroes work together to combat the corruption surrounding the rise of rail-roads.

Film Review | J. Edgar
‘He wasn’t sure which microphone he wanted to use’
One definition of power is ‘a measurement of an entity’s ability to control its environment’. Power manifests itself in many forms; for J. Edgar Hoover, secrets were power, and he amassed much of it during his 48-year career. It’s a concept that is at the heart of Clint Eastwood’s latest, a biopic on the infamous founder of the FBI. Eastwood is no stranger to depicting well-known figures on screen, with 2009’s Nelson Mandela biopic Invictus an impressive credit in a bulging filmography. Is J. Edgar another notable notch for Eastwood?
