Much like Tony Stark, Marvel Studios have been tinkering with Iron Man for over five years now, striving to upgrade and improve upon the previous model. In some ways, the success rate of the franchise mirrors Stark’s own cinematic journey. The first Iron Man (2008) was an unexpected hit, delighting cinemagoers whilst sowing the seeds for Marvel’s ‘Phase One’. Iron Man 2 (2010) saw both protag and film succumb to expectation, whilst Avengers Assemble (2012) took the character’s popularity to new heights. Enter Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 (2013) – a fun, action-packed superhero yarn that’s arguably Marvel’s best solo instalment to date.
The action-packed trailers for next year’s big summer blockbusters just keep on coming this week, with the latest film to offer up some new footage being The Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger (2013). A brief teaser trailer debuted all the way back in October, and now we have a full two-minute look at this big screen Hollywood re-imagining of the popular 1950s American television series. For the previously uninitiated, The Lone Ranger will see former Texas ranger John Reid (Armie Hammer) join forces with native American ‘spirit warrior Tonto’ (Verbinski regular Johnny Depp) as the two work together to fight corruption in the dangerous canyons and plains of the Wild West.

After a relatively quiet 2012 (Andrew Dominik’s superb recession-hit mob thriller Killing Them Softly aside), Hollywood mega-star Brad Pitt looks to have an extremely busy 2013 ahead of him, with no fewer than four films already on his slate. The second, and arguably the most anticipated of those features, is Marc Forster’s World War Z (2013), an adaptation of Max Brooks’ (son of Mel) popular novel of the same name, which documents the coming global zombie apocalypse. Along with an uninspired teaser poster, a 30-second sneak peek was released earlier in the week, followed by today’s full trailer. One thing is for certain – the z-heads on show aren’t of your slow, shuffling, garden variety.

Robert Downey Jr.’s much loved interpretation of Tony Stark aka Iron Man has won fans all over the world, and he will be back to reprise his role for a fourth time in the highly anticipated Iron Man 3 next year. Earlier this year, the lucky fans at comic-con got a first look at some new footage, and in the past few days we have been privy to stills and, in what has become the latest marketing tool for big films, teaser trailers of teaser trailers. Now, we have the first full trailer for the Iron Avenger’s next solo adventure. Directed this time around by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 will pit the hero against the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). With his back against the wall, Stark must rely on his smarts to protect those he cares about.
